Epitalon
Epitalon, sometimes spelled Epithalon, is the four-amino-acid sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly. It was designed to echo the amino-acid makeup of epithalamin, an extract taken from cow pineal glands. The literature is mostly cell-culture and rodent experiments, and a big portion of it comes out of Khavinson's laboratory in St. Petersburg.

What researchers study it for
- Telomerase in cell cultures
- Mouse survival and tumor rates
- Pineal gland and melatonin signaling
- Antioxidant readouts in lab systems
How it is thought to work
No one has worked out how it acts. A single experiment in human fetal fibroblasts linked epitalon to telomerase activity and longer telomeres. Review articles also mention reported changes in melatonin production and in a handful of enzymes, but the same reviews say it is not clear these account for anything it does.
Where the research stands
Mainly lab and rodent data. The research is mostly test-tube and rodent work. In one mouse experiment, average lifespan did not shift, although the longest-lived animals lived somewhat longer. We found no controlled studies in people.
