KPV
KPV is three amino acids long: lysine, proline and valine. Those are positions 11 to 13 of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), the tail end of that hormone. Most of the published work looks at it as an anti-inflammatory candidate.

What researchers study it for
- Mouse models of colon inflammation
- Inflammation pathways in gut-lining cells
- Nanoparticle carrier studies
- Short anti-inflammatory peptides from the melanocortin family
How it is thought to work
How it acts is still an open question. In cultured cells, the PepT1 transporter carries KPV into the cell, and lower NF-κB and MAP-kinase activity has been seen alongside that. Work in mice with colitis hints that at least some of what it does happens without the melanocortin-1 receptor.
Where the research stands
Animal and cell studies only. A search of ClinicalTrials.gov turned up no studies in people, and the FDA compounding review says the agency could not find any human exposure information.
