Reconstitution solution
This item is not a peptide. It is sterile, pyrogen-free water with a small amount of benzyl alcohol added to keep microbes from growing, offered here as a diluent for lab use. The pharmaceutical version is a USP-listed product.

What researchers study it for
- Made of water and benzyl alcohol
- Preservative role in containers opened more than once
- Label calls for storage at controlled room temperature
How it is thought to work
The benzyl alcohol, usually at 0.9%, acts as a bacteriostatic preservative: once a container has been opened it holds back the growth of microbes, but it does not sterilize what is inside. Products with FDA labeling carry a warning that they must not be used in newborns, because benzyl alcohol is toxic to them.
Where the research stands
Bench reagent. Drug-grade versions hold FDA approval through an NDA (Hospira's is NDA018802). What we sell is a reagent for the bench, not that drug product.
