Selank spray
Selank is a seven-amino-acid peptide (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro) created by Russian researchers. It takes tuftsin, a short piece of immunoglobulin G, and adds Pro-Gly-Pro on the end to make the molecule more stable.

What researchers study it for
- Rodent behavior tests related to anxiety
- One small Russian study in generalized anxiety disorder
- Genes tied to GABA signaling
- Enzymes that break down enkephalins
How it is thought to work
There is no settled account of how Selank acts. Ideas put forward include slowing the enzymes that degrade enkephalins, nudging how GABA receptors bind their ligand in radioligand experiments, and altering which GABA-linked genes are active. The teams that created the peptide in Russia produced most of this evidence.
Where the research stands
Said to be approved in Russia; no FDA approval. Sources describe it as approved in Russia for anxiety. The human studies are small and written in Russian, one being a comparison against medazepam in 62 patients, and we found no sign of FDA approval.
