Sermorelin
Sermorelin is a lab-made analog of human growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) that is 29 amino acids long. That length is the shortest piece reported to keep all of GHRH's activity.

What researchers study it for
- Tests of whether the pituitary can release GH
- Children with unexplained GH deficiency
- How GH pulses are timed
How it is thought to work
It engages GHRH receptors on the front part of the pituitary, and the output it triggers is growth hormone alone. Scientists have also used it as a tool to study the back-and-forth between GHRH and somatostatin, the hormone that holds GH back, and how the two together create pulses of GH.
Where the research stands
Once approved by FDA as Geref. It once sold in the US under the brand Geref, with approvals in 1990 and 1997. EMD Serono stopped making it, the approval was pulled in 2009, and in 2013 FDA stated the withdrawal had nothing to do with safety or effectiveness.
