Vilon
Vilon is the synthetic two-amino-acid peptide Lys-Glu, or KE. The same dipeptide is named as one of the active parts of the thymus extract Thymalin, and most of the research on it comes from the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology.

What researchers study it for
- Thymocytes and other immune cells
- Length of life and spontaneous tumors in mice
- Chromatin in lymphocytes from elderly donors
- Inflammatory signaling in a monocyte cell line
How it is thought to work
No mechanism has been established. Reports describe more thymocyte proliferation and higher sphingomyelinase activity in mouse cells, unpacking of condensed chromatin in cultured human lymphocytes, and reduced TNF and IL-6 expression in a monocyte-derived cell line. The suggestion that it binds DNA directly comes mainly from molecular modelling.
Where the research stands
Mostly preclinical; a few small Russian human reports. The human reports are small studies in Russian-language journals, including some in people with diabetes. One group and its collaborators produced most of the work. ClinicalTrials.gov lists no trials, and no FDA-approved product exists.
